Analysis of the Questionnaire
- In response to the first question, 65% of the respondents were female, and 25% were male.
- 95% of people did not read the college magazine
- The product evidently did not work and has failed to reach its target audience.
- The most popular colours chosen by the respondents were Blue, Black, and White.
- Possible backup colours are Red, Yellow and Green.
- 85% of people say that they will spend between nothing and 50p for the magazine
- The price should not rise above 50p, however if it were to gain popularity and sales increased, a possible price increase way be viable.
- 70% said that they would want the magazine to be produced monthly, or every half term.
- This is a fair response, as if it were to be on a more regular basis, the level or quality of content would be much lower.
- 50% of respondents said they would prefer that the magazine be informal, whereas 40% believe it should be a mix of formal and informal.
- Though an informal magazine has a majority, it is wise to cater to the other 40%, as they will make up a large part of sales. A good plan would be to make it largely informal and to include a few serious articles.
- The main themes that the respondents chose were Music (11), College Trips (9), and Free Gifts (7).
- Other popular themes were Sport (7), Fashion (7), and Technology (6).
- 50% of people wanted a picture of a student to be on the front cover of the magazine, while 30% wanted it to be a Celebrity and 30% wanted it to be Nature.
- Maybe interchange between the three options each month to appeal to more.
- 100% said they wanted a jobs page.
Analysis of College Lifestyle Magazine
I think that the design on this magazine is highly effective
at attracting potential customers. Firstly, the main image has been
specifically placed in order to stand out and appear to come out of the page;
they have done this by placing him over the main header text. Also, his
mannerisms help entice the reader as he is smiling, happy and has his arms out.
Another way in which the design is effective is by placing a clear promotional offer on the front page – they have done this in a fluorescent colour and therefore it stands out against the darker background of the page. The design of the border is also a contributing factor, as it is clear that it’s paintball, which is attractive to the target audience.
The ‘selling line’ is well structured and uses alliteration
– “Hip, Hot and Happening” – this is effective at staying in the reader’s mind,
and also reflects the aims of the magazine, which helps as college students are
the sort of readership that would like to keep up-to-date. The bright colour of
the headlines against the dark background also helps to draw the reader’s
attention.
