Analysis of College Lifestyle Magazine


I think that the design on this magazine is highly effective at attracting potential customers. Firstly, the main image has been specifically placed in order to stand out and appear to come out of the page; they have done this by placing him over the main header text. Also, his mannerisms help entice the reader as he is smiling, happy and has his arms out.

Another way in which the design is effective is by placing a clear promotional offer on the front page – they have done this in a fluorescent colour and therefore it stands out against the darker background of the page. The design of the border is also a contributing factor, as it is clear that it’s paintball, which is attractive to the target audience.

The ‘selling line’ is well structured and uses alliteration – “Hip, Hot and Happening” – this is effective at staying in the reader’s mind, and also reflects the aims of the magazine, which helps as college students are the sort of readership that would like to keep up-to-date. The bright colour of the headlines against the dark background also helps to draw the reader’s attention.
