Original Ideas

For my magazine, Black Ice, the music genre that I aim to focus on is Rock. My title is named after an album by AC/DC, a world renowned band and a household name in rock, therefore it appeals to my target audience – the majority of whom listen to rock music and read similar magazines such as Kerrang, Mojo and Classic Rock.

Though my demographic is unisex, I think that the majority of readers will be adult males – mostly around the age range of 18-25. My demographic falls into both the ABC1 and C2DE categories, as the style of music is appreciated by people belonging to all classes; however the majority of readers will be teenagers/young adults who read similarly-themed magazines.
The price for my magazine would be £2.50, as I believe that this is affordable for all demographics, and since my magazine is monthly it would be affordable to consumers, as it would not be a regular cost for them.

I have chosen this particular type of magazine because the Rock magazine market is thriving, with many famous brands such as Mojo, Kerrang, Classic Rock and Rolling Stone leading the way. It is also a mass market, with millions of potential readers throughout the UK.

Moodboards

I have chosen some of these brands for my advertising moodboard because I believe that these are the type of products that my readers will be familiar with and use regularly. My main demographic is males aged 18-25 so many of them will be familiar with the brands I have outlined here. I chose Nike, River Island and H&M to advertise their clothing range because they are highly popular and well-recognised brands among my demographic. I have included many fast food brands such as KFC, McDonalds and Burger King because of their popularity, and the fact that young people tend to eat more fast food than those in the 40+ age range. Apple and Android are also included - they are both tech firms with regular new products  being released, meaning they would want to advertise more in order to increase sales. I have also included bands in there, who may want to advertise themselves or advertise a concert/tour. There is a BMX and two skateboards, which may be how my target audience (particularly the younger end) get around or choose to have fun, therefore they may want to advertise their product in my magazine.

Location, Props, and Costume Report

Location:
For my location, I have decided to take my photos inside a studio. This is partly to ensure the reader maintains their attention on the model and not on the background, but mainly because I will be able to adjust the lighting to suit my requirements and to give the image the highest possible quality.

Props:
In my photo shoot, I will use only one prop – a guitar. I will use this prop to in order to suggest a rock ‘n’ roll effect; this shows the genre of the magazine to the reader and could also tempt the reader in to buying it, as it makes it clear the magazine is about rock.

Costume:

When taking my photos, I will ensure that my models will wear clothing related to the subject matter. My male model will have a leather jacket with a band t-shirt underneath. He will also wear jeans with boots. This is because it’s a very rock n roll look and is likely how my target audience dresses. My female model does not have to adhere to any particular dress code, as she is not a main component of my magazine and only appears in a small image.
